Engineers’ Day (September 15) was observed to celebrate the birth anniversary of M Visvesvaraya.
Contributions:
- Worked as Diwan of Mysore (now Mysuru).
- The architect of the Krishnaraja Sagara dam on the Kaveri River.
- Devised steel doors to stop the wasteful flow of water in dams.
- Established Bangalore Agricultural University, University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering, etc.
Awards and recognition:
- Conferred ‘Knight Commander of the Order of the Indian Empire’ by the British in 1915.
- Bharat Ratna award (1955)
