World’s second-largest diamond has been unearthed in Botswana. 

  • Botswana is one of the largest producers of diamonds and it accounted for 20% of global production.

Political features: 

  • Landlocked country in the centre of Southern Africa.
  • Bordering Countries: Namibia (west and north), Zambia and Zimbabwe (northeast), and South Africa (southeast and south). 

Geographical features:

  • Tropic of Capricorn passes through Botswana.
  • Desert: Kalahari Desert covers more than 70% of Botswana.
  • Major Rivers: Okavango, Limpopo, Zambezi.
    • Okavango Delta is Africa’s largest endorheic delta (no outflow to ocean). 
  • Biodiversity: Savanna grassland and world's largest concentration of African elephants.
